Plans are well underway for Moondance Jam III to be held July 8 and 9 at Moondance Ranch outside Walker.
Headliners include the 1991 Academy of Country Music top new vocal group, The Pirates of the Mississippi, Gary Puckett, Mel McDaniel, Johnny PayCheck, and a Cajun music group from New Orleans Evangeline. Two local groups - Sparky and the Time Pirates and the Dead Stiks - and one of 1ast year’s favorites, The Hoopsnakes, will round out the program along with Dakotah and The Killer Hayseeds, two top country acts. The Midnight Shift Band, a country-rock group from Detroit, Michigan will also appear.
This year’s lineup features a variety of musical styles, according to Cindy Grant, the coordinator of entertainment. Promoters started lining up bands last December. "A lot of work goes into securing groups for events of this magnitude," Grant noted. She and Bill Bieloh, the Moondance Ranch proprietor, have already started work on possible groups for next year’s event and hope to announce two headliners at the Saturday night festivities
Other activities range from concessions, on site camping and horseback riding to a dunking tank. Seating is provided on dry hay bales. Gates are open at noon each day. Friday's entertainment begins at 5:00 p.m. and Saturday's at 12:30. For further information, call Regal Productions at 218/587-3134 or the Leech Lake Chamber of Commerce at 800/833-1118.
