Now in its fourth year, Moondance Jam, a popular music festival near Walker, will feature top recording artists from the late 1960s through the 1980s. A roster of five national acts has been scheduled for the two-day event set for July 7 and 8. This year’s jam will feature a decidedly classic rock theme with artists such as the Guess Who and Grass Roots performing on Friday, with Survivor, Starship, featuring Mickey Thomas, and Kansas, performing on Saturday. The outdoor venue has grown from featuring a notable lineup of local and regional acts in its first year, to national country and rock artists in each succeeding year. The artists set to perform for Moondance Jam IV bring with them a "Who’s Who" among Top 40 hits spanning three decades. On Friday night alone, festivalgoers will he treated to 28 Top 40 hits from the Grass Roots and the Guess Who. And that’s only the beginning of what’s in store for Moondance Jan IV.
The Grass Roots’ Friday performance will feature timeless favorites such as "Temptation Eyes," "Sooner or Later" and "Midnight Confessions."
The Guess Who will bring well-known classics such as "These Eyes," "No Time Left For You," "American Woman," and "No Sugar Tonight," to their performance to fill out Friday night.
Survivor, perhaps best known for their hit "Eye of the Tiger" and "Burning Heart" from the popular Sylvester Stallone movies Rocky III and Rocky IV, will kick off Saturday’s lineup national acts. Other more recently memorable Survivor songs include " The Search Is Over," "I Can't Hold You Back," and "High On You."
Starship, featuring Mickey Thomas, will perform songs such as "Sara," "We Built This City," "Find Your Way Back," and "Jane." (Some people may recognize Thomas’ unmistakable voice from the hit song "Fooled Around and Fell In Love" when he was with the Elvin Bishop Group.)
Kansas, which topped the charts with "Dust in the Wind," "Point of No Return," and "Carry On Wayward Son," will wrap up Saturday evening’s performances.
In addition to the national acts performing for this year’s jam, a special showcase featuring some of the better-known regional bands will round out what has become a Moondance Jam tradition. Already scheduled are Ripchord from Park Rapids, Hands Down of Bemidji, Hackensack’s Dead Stiks, the only group that this year will have played in all four Moondance jam festivals.
National acts are scheduled to take the stage late afternoon each day. Great food, games and concessions, along with on-site camping and more will round out this year’s family event. Seating will be provided on dry hay bales.
Tickets at the gate will cost $20 per day.
